Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay

Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay (1838–1894) was a pioneering Bengali novelist and one of the key figures of the Bengal Renaissance. He served as a deputy magistrate under the British government and wrote numerous novels blending history, religion, and nationalism. His song Vande Mataram from Anandamath became an important symbol of the Indian freedom movement.
