Jules Verne (1828–1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. He is often called the "Father of Science Fiction" for works such as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in Eighty Days. His novels combine adventure with scientific and geographical speculation and have been widely translated and adapted for film and television.
